Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS) is marketed based on visual assessment of quality. Grading of RSS is done based on the grade descriptions and specifications defined in the 'The Green Book" of International Rubber Quality and Packing Conferences as RSS 1X, RSS1, RSS2, RSS3, RSS4, and RSS5.Over 70% of the production of natural rubber is processed as Ribbed Smoked Sheet. RSS of superior quality are processed from fresh field latex, adopting modern processing methods. After grading, the sheets are packed in 50 kg bales, with the grades marked on the bales.
Oxidized spots or streaks, weak, heated, undercured, over-smoked, opaque and burnt sheets are not permissible in this grade. The rubber must be dry, clean, strong, sound and evenly smoked, and free from blemishes, specks, resinous matter (rust), blisters, sand, dirty packing and any other foreign matter. Small pinhead bubbles, if scattered, will not be objected to.
Medium size bark particles, bubbles, translucent stains, slightly sticky and slightly over smoked rubber are permissible. Oxidized spots or streaks, weak, heated, under-cured, over-smoked, and burnt sheets are not permissible. The rubber must be dry, clean, strong, sound and free from blemishes, blisters, sand, dirty packing and all other foreign matter other than specified above as permissible.
Large bark particles, bubbles and small blisters, stains, over-smoked, slightly sticky rubber and blemishes are permissible. Slightly under-cured rubber is permissible. Weak, heated, burnt, oxidized spots or streaks are not permissible. The rubber must be dry, firm and free of blisters. Dirty packing, sand and all other foreign matter other than specified above is not permissible
This is a light colored sheet prepared in the same way as ribbed smoked sheets but dried in a shed or tunnel using hot air instead of smoke. As color of the sheets is an important consideration, use of sodium bisulphate which inhibits enzymic discoloration and lightens the color is necessary. Usually a calculated volume of a solution of sodium bisulphate is added in the bulking tank so as to get 1.20 g of it in one kg of dry rubber. Air dried sheets can be used as substitutes for Pale Latex Crepe and hence this type of sheets may fetch a better price compared to smoked sheets.

ISNR is processed natural rubber in block forms, adopting cost-effective and modern processing methods as per the technical parameters laid down by the International Standards Organization (ISO). In india, block rubber is marketed with ISI specification, IS 4588 and therefore termed as 'Indian Standard Natural Rubber' (ISNR). It is a state-of the- art marketable form of natural rubber, produced from latex and field coagulum. Since it is marketed in compact polythene wrapped bales, the contamination of rubber on storage, holding and transportation are successfully prevented. ISNR is marketed in six well defined ISI marked grades with uniformity and consistency in quality, to meet the requirements of global consumer. The standard sizes and compact packing enables mechanized handling and containerization, thereby making the transportation trouble free and economical...
Processing of natural rubber into blocks similar to synthetic rubbers adopting cost effective and modern processing methods is a notable improvement in the presentation of dry natural rubber from India. This is in line with the consumer preference in the world rubber market for Technically Specified Rubber, which has the following advantages:
Bureau of Indian Standards formulated specifications for ISNR in 1969 (IS 4588).IS 4588 prescribes 6 grades viz., ISNR 3 CV, ISNR 3 L, ISNR 5, ISNR 10, ISNR 20 and ISNR 50

Field latex is a white or slightly yellowish opaque liquid with a specific gravity, which varies between 0.974 and 0.986. It is a weak lyophilic colloidal system of spherical or pear shaped rubber globules suspended in an acquiesces serum. Field latex is centrifuged to manufacture latex concentrated of 60% rubber content. Centrifuged latex is commercially available in two different varieties, one with high ammonia (above 0.60%) and the other with Low Ammonia (less than 0.30%). It also contains secondary preservatives like TMTD (0.0125%) and zinc oxide (0.0125%). Grading, packing, and making of centrifuged latex are as per specifications prescribed in IS 5430.
Processing of natural rubber latex into high quality latex concentrate of 60% dry rubber content is done through centrifugation. Centrifuging involves the separation of preserved field latex into two fractions, one containing the concentrated latex of more than 60% dry rubber and the other containing 4-6% dry rubber. Centrifuged latex is today available commercially in two different verities with high ammonia (min.0.7% of ammonia) and low ammonia (max. 0.3% of ammonia). The former is preserved solely with ammonia and later contains one or more preservatives besides ammonia. LA latex has several advantages which include better quality, lower cost of production by way of savings in preservatives, acid and low cost of effluent treatment.

Cup lumps and other higher grades of field coagulum are used for making EBC. The processing consists of soaking in water for 24 hours and washing the cup lumps and scrap to remove dirt and passing the washed materials through a creping battery. The crepe thus obtained is air-dried, graded and packed. There are three different grades of Estate Brown Crepe, ie, EBC 1X, EBC 1 and EBC 2.
Skim Crepe (Skim Block) is a crinkly lace rubber, obtained when coagulated latex or any form of field coagulum (tree lace, shell scrap, earth scrap etc.) is passed several times through heavy rolls called crepers and then air dried at ambient temperatures.
PLC with uniform light color is an ideal choice for the production of light colored or transparent products such as shoe sole, pressure sensitive tapes, surgical and pharmaceutical products, industrial printing rollers, and gaskets. pale crepes are the superior grades among the other crepe rubber because of its high purity and light color. Therefore they are used for pharmaceutical and adhesive applications. Sole crepes are block rubbers similar to pale crepes and manufactured by laminating plies of pale crepes to the required thickness and passed through several rollers. These sole crepe rubbers are used in footwear applications
